Ruth Naomi’s Family in Moab 1 1During the time[A] of the judges, there was a famine in the land. A man left Bethlehem[B] in Judah with his wife and two sons to live in the land of Moab for a while. 2The man’s name was Elimelech,[C] and his wife’s name was Naomi.[D] The names of his two sons were Mahlon[E] and Chilion.[F] They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They entered the land of Moab and settled there. 3Naomi’s husband Elimelech died, and she was left with her two sons. 4Her sons took Moabite women as their wives: one was named Orpah and the second was named Ruth. After they lived in Moab about 10 years, 5both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two children and without her husband.   Ruth’s Loyalty to Naomi   6She and her daughters-in-law prepared to leave the land of Moab, because she had heard in Moab that the Lord had paid attention to His people’s need by providing them food. 7She left the place where she had been living, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, and traveled along the road leading back to the land of Judah. 8She said to them, “Each of you go back to your mother’s home. May the Lord show faithful love to you as you have shown to the dead and to me. 9May the Lord enable each of you to find security in the house of your new husband.” She kissed them, and they wept loudly. 10“No,” they said to her. “We will go with you to your people.” 11But Naomi replied, “Return home, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Am I able to have any more sons[G] who could become your husbands? 12Return home, my daughters. Go on, for I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me to have a husband tonight and to bear sons, 13would you be willing to wait for them to grow up? Would you restrain yourselves from remarrying?[H] No, my daughters, my life is much too bitter for you to share,[I] because the Lord’s hand has turned against me.” 14Again they wept loudly, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. 15Naomi said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god.[J] Follow your sister-in-law.” 16But Ruth replied:   Do not persuade me to leave you or go back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. 17Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh punish me,[K] and do so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.   18When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped trying to persuade her. 19The two of them traveled until they came to Bethlehem. When they entered Bethlehem, the whole town was excited about their arrival[L] and the local women exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi?” 20“Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara,”[M] she answered,[N] “for the Almighty has made me very bitter. 21I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has pronounced judgment on[O] me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?” 22So Naomi came back from the land of Moab with her daughter-in-law Ruth the Moabitess. They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.

Are you lost in Moab? If you get lost there things will not be good for there. We need to be in the relationship with God that he is directing not one we are directing. God will let you make the decisions even if it is dangerous for you. The result of disobedience is lost ness. Lost ness does not mean going to hell. It is the path thru life which is hard and bad.

In the text we have the story of two incredible women: Ruth and Naomi. Some may ask, what is your favorite character in the bible and I will say "Naomi"and they will say, "what did she do,?" Sometimes all you have to do is persevere. Naomi and her two sons moved from her famine stricken land in Bethlehem to a strange land called Moab. Naomi followed her husband and Naomi experienced some bad times. Naomi's husband and sons died in Moab. Leaving Naomi and two daughter in laws broken, poor and alone. It must be difficult to be in a strange place, to be somewhere you did not asked to be and things don't go the way you want them to go. So Naomi thought. While you think you are alone someone is on your side, "If it had not been for The Lord who was on my side," let everyone say, "God was on my side in a strange pace," Naomi's husband and sons died and Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem, she did not want her daughter in laws to feel obligated to stay with her. She returned to her homeland a lot different than when she left. Because of her brokenness she became bitter.here is a glimpse of her bitterness, she said "but The Lord has brought me back empty." The Lord has afflicted me the almighty has brought misfortune to me. It seems that Naomi was ready to give up. The good news is that the story would not end like that. Your story won't end like this, I know your broke, your sick, and people have let you down, but I came to tell you that the story will not end like this. Ruth trying to put food on their table went into a field that had already been harvest to glean the leftovers. Their is a blessing in the leftovers. While in the field gathering the leftovers she attracted the attention. Of the owner of the land, Boaz, a very rich man. Boaz a distant relative of Naomi's husband. A kinsman redeemer. God knows where your next blessing is coming from. Hold on .God knows. A dark complexion woman, Ruth;, no Mary Kay, no St. John, just out there doing what God told her to do. Sometimes you need to do you, Boaz was so impressed with Ruth that he said who is this woman, Boaz admired her faithfulness and noble character. ," God was turning that situation around, Naomi nursed the baby as her own, Now, Boaz invites Naomi to live with them. now the same women, saying blessed be The Lord who has not left you without a kinsman redeemer, and may his name be famous in Israel and may he be to you a restorer of life; As a nourisher of your old age for your daughter in law who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, if God can do it for Naomi God can do it for you. The worst is over, it's your time to be blessed from brokenness, to bitterness, to blessedness. Character still matters and its free, Boaz takes note of Ruth and eventually marries the dark "nappy hair" woman that "only" came to work. You'll find someone when you stop looking for someone, Boaz marries Ruth, The end of the story, Ruth later gives birth to a son named Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David. Look at God. Ruth takes the baby and says to Naomi and "you raise the child as if he were your ownThe faithfulness of Ruth towards Naomi. God's word applies to all of us no matter who we are and no matter what we've been through.just because we have a relationship with God does not mean tribulation will not come. We are assured that whatever we might need to come through that we have the victory Christ Jesus. you can overcome this, be of good cheer; we are more than conquerors, for every wilderness experience there is a future promise land; you don't have to accept where you are Rejoice in the Lord for where you are going to be. God can bring you from where you are to where God has designed for you to be. I'm a living witness you rdon't have to die where you are now. God can turn your situation around; be not weary in well doing for in due season you will reap, if you faint not,

Commitment - Ruth shows the demonstration of devotion. You must be delivered. Must be deliberate in our devotion to God. Ruth was under no obligation to go with Naomi. Ruth was not looking for anything in return. Ruth choose to go she didn't have to go. You have to hold on to God and never let go. Demonstration of devotion: Does not diminish or dwindle when it is faced with a detrimental dilemma. There will be some things that you have to let go. Diligently develops our relationship with God. v. 16
