2 Thessalonians 3:1 - 18 (ESV) Chapter 3Pray for Us 3 1Finally, brothers,[G] jSee 1 Thess. 5:25pray for us, that kPs. 147:15; [1 Thess. 1:8]the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored,[H] as happened among you, 2and lRom. 15:31that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For m[Deut. 32:20]not all have faith. 3But nSee 1 Cor. 1:9the Lord is faithful. Warning Against Idleness 6Now we command you, brothers, s1 Cor. 5:4in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, tver. 14; [Matt. 18:17; 2 Tim. 3:5]; See 1 Cor. 5:9; 2 John 10that you keep away from any u1 Cor. 5:11brother vver. 11; 1 Thess. 5:14who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 7For you yourselves know w[Acts 20:35]; See 1 Thess. 1:6how you ought to imitate us, because x1 Thess. 1:5we were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but ySee 1 Thess. 2:9with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. 9It was z1 Cor. 9:4; 1 Thess. 2:6not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves aver. 7; 1 Pet. 5:3an example to imitate. 10For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: b[Gen. 3:19]; See 1 Thess. 4:11If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11For we hear that some among you cver. 6walk in idleness, not busy at work, but d1 Tim. 5:13; 1 Pet. 4:15busybodies. 12Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.[J] 13As for you, brothers, eGal. 6:9; [1 Cor. 15:58]do not grow weary in doing good. 14If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and fSee ver. 6have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. 15gSee Lev. 19:17; Matt. 18:15Do not regard him as an enemy, but h1 Thess. 5:12, 14; [Titus 3:10]warn him as a brother. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. 18mSee Rom. 16:20The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 - 18 (ESV)
